We begin with family photos on the plain backdrop, creating timeless images before the cake smash fun begins.

Frequently asked questions

We recommend booking 4 to 6 weeks in advance, and scheduling the session 2 to 4 weeks before your baby’s actual first birthday. This gives you time to receive your edited photos for party invitations and thank you cards. Weekend sessions book up quickly.

The cake needs to be provided by parents. We recommend a small smash cake, 6 to 8 inches, that’s baby-friendly, soft and easy to break apart. If you’d prefer a mess-free session, or your baby has allergies, we also have a fake cake available in the studio.

We shoot in three stages: pre-cake portraits in a cute outfit of your choice, the cake smash itself in just a nappy or diaper cover as things get messy, and bath tub photos for the clean-up.

Sessions typically last 45 to 90 minutes depending on your package and your baby’s mood. We work at your baby’s pace, taking breaks if needed, covering pre-cake portraits, the cake smash and the bath tub clean-up.

Please bring the smash cake, spare clothes for after, baby wipes and towels, and snacks or drinks for your baby. The studio provides all backdrops, decorations and props.

Yes. Our studio has a variety of cake smash props, backdrops and decorations, including multiple themes, birthday banners and balloons, a mini bathtub for clean-up photos, and a fake cake option for mess-free sessions.

Every baby reacts differently, some dive right in, others are more cautious. We’re experienced in gently encouraging babies to engage, but if yours simply isn’t interested, we’ll still capture beautiful pre-cake portraits and adjust the session around what they enjoy.

A preview gallery in 3 to 4 days to choose your favourites, watermarked for security, then final edited images within 20 working days. Rush editing is available for £99 if you need them within 72 hours.

14+ days notice, reschedule once free. Under 14 days, free if it doesn’t affect other bookings, otherwise the £49 deposit is forfeited. Please let us know as soon as possible, especially if your baby is unwell.

I’m Mihai Gonguta, and cake smash sessions are some of my favourite days in the studio. Watching a baby meet their very first cake, the giggles, the mess, the proud parents cheering them on, while I capture every joyful moment in a themed set built just for them.

Over 10 years behind the camera, 7 years running my own studio in Milton Keynes, and over 80 families already trusted me with this milestone.
